Turkish authorities arrest forty-three suspects in operation against illegal betting

(MENAFN) Turkish authorities have detained 43 suspects in a nationwide operation against illegal betting and aggravated fraud, covering 21 provinces including Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya. The suspects’ accounts held a total of 1 billion Turkish liras (24.4 million U.S. dollars), Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.

Eight of the detainees have been formally arrested, 29 placed under judicial control, and the remainder are under investigation. Authorities said the suspects facilitated illegal betting and online money transfers, posting fake ads for electric bicycles, mobile phones, and investment services. Mobile phones, SIM cards, computers, bank cards, and other digital materials were also seized.
