Kosovo’s PM announces early delivery of Turkish kamikaze drones

(MENAFN) Large containers bearing thousands of Turkish Skydagger kamikaze drones have reached Kosovo ahead of schedule, the country’s prime minister announced Wednesday. The shipment is part of a purchase agreement with Turkish defense manufacturer Baykar.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said dozens of Kosovo Security Force personnel have already completed training to operate the systems, which are built for precision strikes against both moving and fixed targets, in a post on social media.

“The contract was signed last December with Baykar, the parent company of the Skydagger manufacturer,” Kurti said, adding that the delivery — initially planned for January — arrived three months early.

He referred to the ready-to-fly systems as “combat drones equipped with explosive payloads intended to neutralize enemy targets,” and said their arrival enhances Kosovo’s defensive posture.

“With this contingent of unmanned aircraft, alongside (Baykar’s) TB2 Bayraktar and (US) Puma systems, we are continuing to build and modernize our military force through new technologies and contemporary combat tactics,” he added.

Kurti also noted the drones were moved on Rheinmetall 8x8 multifunctional trucks bought last year — 15 vehicles in total, 10 acquired by Kosovo and five provided as donations.

Authorities have not released the exact number of drones delivered or provided details about how they will be deployed operationally.
