Southwest California Grapples with Severe Storms

(MENAFN) Powerful thunderstorms struck southwest California on Tuesday, unleashing heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and elevated debris flow threats across the region.

The U.S. National Weather Service issued urgent warnings for intense storms impacting Los Angeles County and nearby areas. Officials highlighted a significant risk of debris flows, particularly over areas scorched by recent wildfires.

Flash flood warnings were specifically issued for the Palisades burn scar and Malibu zones, signaling heightened danger to residents.

In anticipation of the storm, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Margaret Stewart stated in a Monday news release that an evacuation alert would be in effect from 10 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Wednesday for neighborhoods impacted by the Palisades, Hurst, and Sunset fires.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass shared on X that city crews are closely monitoring the weather conditions and are prepared to act quickly in case of emergencies. She urged residents to remain alert, steer clear of flooded streets, and exercise caution regarding possible debris flows in hillside neighborhoods.
