Israel Says It Killed Senior Hezbollah Member in Beirut Attack

(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced Tuesday that it killed a top Hezbollah official, Reda Khazai, in an airstrike on Beirut on Monday. According to Israel, Khazai was involved in Hezbollah’s military buildup and coordination with Iran, as well as efforts to rebuild the group’s capabilities following the 2024 Israeli-Lebanon conflict. Hezbollah has not yet commented on the claim.

Monday’s airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon reportedly killed at least 52 people and injured over 150. The Israeli army also launched a ground incursion into southern Lebanon early Tuesday.

The escalation follows a Hezbollah attack on a military site in northern Israel, which the group said was retaliation for ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon and the joint US-Israeli campaign against Iran.

Israel has frequently violated the November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah, carrying out near-daily strikes that have caused hundreds of deaths and injuries. The broader conflict, which began as an Israeli offensive in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024, has resulted in over 4,000 deaths and roughly 17,000 wounded in Lebanon.
