U.S. Vance Says Ceasefire Reached Between Iran, U.S. “Fragile”
Speaking at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest, Vance confirmed the agreement reached Tuesday, under which Iran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a suspension of US and Israeli military strikes.
The Vice President argued that President Donald Trump's core war aim had already been accomplished — asserting that the campaign had succeeded in its goal to "decimate the Iranian military, decimate their ability to wage conventional war."
Yet Vance made clear the ceasefire carries conditions, not guarantees. Should Iran resort to "lying" or "cheating" at the negotiating table — or take any action to undermine the truce — Washington would not hesitate to reimpose military pressure, he warned.
The remarks reflect a White House walking a careful line: claiming battlefield success while keeping the threat of renewed strikes firmly on the table should Tehran test the limits of the agreement.
