Pakistan Stresses Diplomacy Amid US-Iran Mediation Efforts
According to reports, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar conveyed this position during a phone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. The two officials discussed recent regional developments as well as ongoing initiatives intended to support stability and de-escalation.
Dar also held separate discussions by phone with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, focusing on the evolving regional situation.
During his call with Cooper, the British foreign secretary reportedly acknowledged Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue efforts. She also welcomed its continued engagement in encouraging diplomatic solutions.
“Both sides underscored the importance of sustained engagement for peace and stability in the region and beyond.”
In another discussion, Dar and Abdelatty similarly emphasized the need for continued coordination among international actors to support long-term peace and regional stability.
The diplomatic exchanges come amid wider geopolitical activity, including a meeting in St. Petersburg between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, taking place against a backdrop of stalled US–Iran contacts.
According to reports, Washington and Tehran previously held talks in Islamabad two weeks earlier, though those discussions did not result in an agreement to resolve ongoing tensions.
